The Bright Side of Christmas is a neighbors to lovers, grumpy x sunshine Christmas-time romance book. I say that, because I feel like the book concentrated more on Wren's people pleasing, than it actually being Christmas centered, as the majority of the book happens prior to Christmas.
Wren is the people pleasing, Christmas loving baby of her family (but gives major older/oldest sister vibes), who wants to make the magic of Christmas happen for everyone in her hometown of Holly Ridge. Adam is the grumpy musician who moved in next door, and hates Christmas.
After her grandmother passed away, Wren took over as the head of the Christmas decorating committee. She sees it as her way of honoring her grandmother's legacy. Every house on the street she and Adam live on is always completely lit up for Christmas, but Adam refuses to decorate his. Thus commences the war of the Christmas decorations. In the midst of their decorating war, Adam notices that Wren isn't getting much sleep, due to her taking on EVERYTHING for EVERYONE without a second thought about what she already has on her plate. Adam is the only person who seems to be able to get Wren to stand up for herself, when not even her best friend was really able to. I, unfortunately, relate to Wren, in the sense that I can be a bit of a people pleaser, and there have been times that I worked myself to the bone without any help.
I really enjoyed this book. There was an instant attraction between the main characters, but definitely not an insta-love kind of deal. Spice doesn't start until around 50% of the way into the book. I've seen some of Morgan's books before, but this was the first one I've actually read, and I will definitely be checking out some of her others now!
Thanks to House of Hearts and Morgan Elizabeth for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own.
